sorpresa! en el pueblo!!

hola amigos!
where should I start? today in the morning I woke up believing that the hotel in Trujillo - in the center of a big city, 700.000 inhabitants - will be my home for the next time, at least for the next few days, and I started to spread my belongings in the hotel room. It felt almost like in a hotel somewhere in austria.... but everything turned out to be different. I was taken to the MINKA office where I was told I would spend the next two months in the pueblo Magdalena de la something working with the artesanos there. Said - done, two women and a driver escorted me to the village - we almost forgot my luggage... which I packed in 5 minutes - and left. The only other englishspeaking person (natuerlich spricht keiner deutsch) in the village is Kevin from the USA who has been here for a year working for some kind of american aid organisation. I have not talked to him yet. yes this is going to be a challenge for me... I try very hard to understand everything they say to me and it is kind of possible if they talk to me and know that they have to speak slow and simple, but talking to each other I hardly get a word...
the only telephone of the village is located in the only tienda (shop) in the village. I am living with a family at the edge of the village, 2 minutes walk from the central placa de armas. a daughter of the family - sandra - walked through the village with me. She is 24 like me, married when she was 19, has a 5 year old son. but unfortunately her husband died and now she is a vidow...of my age.
I get 3 meals a day at the local resteraunt prepared by Irene, a very friendly woman with an also friendly husband who gave me my second spanish lesson talking to me during my lunch: fish fresh from the half-an-hour-walk-away sea with rice and something I forgot the name of, something inbetween fruit and potato, really delicious.
Most of the people here work with sugar which is planted everywhere here. There is also a place of excavation near to the pueblo. Some tourists are said to come and visit, but I havent seen any yet. They come rather in other times of the year. And there are artesanos, the ones I am supposed to work with work with wood. I have met them. I have no idea what will be the result of this all... I say to myself: anni, you wanted it, now you have it, so live with it!
now I go home and rest and try to be prepared for what will come...
muchos saludos cordiales! hasta pronto!
anni
